Buda Castle

Buda Castle is a historical castle complex owned by the Hungarian kings in Budapest, Hungary. It was built back in 1265th year one of the city’s hills, but the massive baroque castle you can actually see today, was raised during the period between 1749th and 1769th year. In past, it was called the Royal castle. Within the complex the Hungarian national gallery and the History museum of Budapest are placed, while around the area of the castle you can see plenty of other interesting local attractions. By the way, Buda Castle is also part of UNESCO historical and cultural heritage.

The Hungarian national gallery

Visit the intriguing Pharmacy Museum “Golden Eagle” to see the local mediaeval lab for AL chemistry and medical instruments of old times. The museum isn’t suitable for kids under 8 years old.

What should I know before a visit of Buda Castle?

  • As the Hungarian national gallery and the History museum of Budapest are placed in the castle, you should check out the working time of each museum for a visit.
  • The area around the castle is always open and accessible, including the Fisherman’s Bastion, which, as a matter of fact, has one of the best observation towers in the region.
  • Making photos of the permanent collection in the Hungarian national gallery is allowed, but with no stands or flashes.

  • Private tour of the castle – 2.5-hour tour of the castle, a visit of Matthias church, the Fisherman’s bastion and the historical squares. There’s some treat included in the tour with a cup of coffee and a dessert.
